Mendenhall Glacier is a glacier about 19 kilometers long which located in Mendenhall Valley, about 19 kilometers from downtown Juneau in the state of Alaska. A total area of 5,815 acre of the glacier and surrounding landscape are protected as Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area designated by unit of the Tongass National Forest.
The Glacier has its long story. its name is originally known as Sitaantaagu or Aak’wtaaksit and then Auke. It extends from the Juneau Icefield, its source, to Mendenhall Lake and ultimately the Mendenhall River.
